Budapest is the capital and the most populous city of Hungary.
The city is located on both sides of the Danube river. The city was formed in 1873 by the merging of Buda and Óbuda on the western bank of the Danube with Pest on the east bank. Before 1873 the cities were jointly called Pest-Buda.
