During our travel through Thailand in 2009 we went to an outdoor museum called Ancient Siam (formerly known as Ancient City). This is a park constructed under the patronage of Lek Viriyaphant and has the shape of Thailand.
The founder’s original idea was to create a golf course with miniatures of Thailand’s historically significant structures spread around the course. He found out most structures around the country being severely damaged over time and decided instead of creating new miniatures to save the original structures when possible or re-creating them full size or scaled down. A lot of the constructing and preservating is done on site by craftsmen. Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world’s largest outdoor museum.
On site you can visit the museum by foot, bike, golf car or take an open tour bus. Ancient Siam is located in Samut Prakan province on Sukhumvit Road, 17 kilometres south of Bearing BTS station. When visiting you can spend an entire day, especially when combining with a visit to the Erawan museum (founded by the same family as well).
During our stay in Bangkok we where invited to a wedding taking place there, hence the first nighttime pictures.
