Punkevní Jeskyně (Punkva Caves), Czech Republic

The Punkva Caves (Punkevní Jeskyně) are a cave system of the Czech Republic located in the northern part of the Moravian Karst in the Vývěry Punkvy National Nature Reserve, east of the town of Blansko, north of the city of Brno. The caves form an underwater hydrographic system of the Punkva River. One section is dry, gradually discovered between 1909 and 1914, and the other is underwater, with dry cave sections explored between 1920 and 1933. The total discovered length is 4 kilometers. Part of it is the Macocha Abyss, its sinkhole is about 138.7 meters deep and also the deepest of its kind in Central Europe. It is a popular tourist attraction for casual visitors to the region.
