Seil is one of the Slate Islands, located on the east side of the Firth of Lorn, 11 kilometres southwest of Oban, in Scotland. Seil is separated from mainland Scotland by the Clachan Sound, which is only about 21.3 metres at its narrowest point. Seil has been linked to the Scottish mainland since 1792, 1793 when the Clachan Bridge was built by engineer Robert Mylne. Also known as the ‘Bridge Over the Atlantic’, the bridge was constructed with a 21.3 m span and has an arch 12.2 m above the sea bed in order to allow small craft to pass under it.
