Bouillon is a town in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. The municipality, including twelve neighboring villages, has more than 5,000 inhabitants and is part of the Neufchâteau district.
Bouillon Castle is a high-rise castle of medieval origin that dominates the Belgian town of Bouillon in the province of Luxembourg. The castle is strategically located on a long rock ridge in a loop of the Semois River, which flows along it on two sides. This castle was founded in the 8th century. The most famous resident was Godfrey of Bouillon who mortgaged the castle in 1096.
For centuries, Bouillon was a small duchy, alternately under the control of France and the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. In 1794, the Republic of Bouillon was proclaimed, which was annexed by France shortly afterwards. The city is a tourist center, in the summer there is a lot of tourism along the Semois River, which meanders around the old city center.
