Heusden is a restored fortified town in the Dutch municipality of Heusden, province of North Brabant. In 1968, work began on restoring the fortified town of Heusden in the old style. This large-scale restoration project lasted twenty years.
The first mention of Heusden dates from 722, as ‘Hunsata Super fluvium Mosam’. Heusden Castle dates from the 12th century. The town as a whole is worth seeing and historic, despite the fact that it underwent heavy destruction on the eve of the liberation in November 1944. The city center and surroundings are a protected cityscape.
