Córdoba is a city in Andalusia, Spain, and the capital of the province of Córdoba. It is the third most populated municipality in Andalusia and the 11th overall in the country. The city primarily lies on the right bank of the Guadalquivir, in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. The Roman Bridge over the Guadalquivir River, links the area of Campo de la Verdad with Barrio de la Catedra.
Córdoba is home to notable examples of Moorish architecture such as the Mezquita-Catedral, which is now a cathedral. The Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba, officially known by its ecclesiastical name of Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption (Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción), is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Córdoba dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. Due to its status as a former mosque, it is also known as the Mezquita (mosque) and as the Great Mosque of Córdoba.
