Prague Part I, Czech Republic

Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Prague is a political, cultural, and economic hub of central Europe, with a rich history and Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architectures. It was an important city to the Habsburg monarchy and Austro-Hungarian Empire. World War I ended with the defeat of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the creation of Czechoslovakia. Prague was chosen as its capital and Prague Castle as the seat of president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.

Hitler ordered the German Army to enter Prague on 15 March 1939, and from Prague Castle proclaimed Bohemia and Moravia a German protectorate. After World War II Prague was a city in a country under the military, economic, and political control of the Soviet Union. In 1993, after the Velvet Divorce, Prague became the capital city of the new Czech Republic.
