The Gasterse Dunes are located northwest of the village of Gasteren. Although small, it’s one of the most beautiful heath and drift sand areas in Drenthe. The location is certainly unique in the stream valley of the Drentsche Aa. The nature reserve lies between the Gastersche Diep, the Oudemolensche Diep and the Anlooër Diepje. The medieval cart tracks and the hunebed prove that humans have left their traces in the Gasterse Dunes for at least 5000 years.
